Winter Warriors 2024
Now in it's 30th year the Winter Warriors program invites you to extend your cricket skills and be challenged towards furthering your development as a player. The program is based around 10 personal coaching sessions spread across the Winter preparing all players for the season ahead.
Sessions are available in WA (Perth), NSW (Newcastle) & Victoria ( St Kilda, Oakleigh, Thoamstown, Dandenong, Bayswater & Werribee)

What does the program cover?
The program covers all aspects of the game one to one. The first session starts with video analysis, this sets up the skills that need extra attention. However if you would like to cover some specific problems speak to Shaun or your coach before or during the first session. If you are an all rounder it is possible to cover both batting and bowling, or any other skill in the game during your 10 sessions.
Who becomes a Winter Warrior?
Because this program is one on one coaching, players of all ages and standards work on their cricket over the winter. It is not unusual to coach a young beginner at 4:30pm followed by a Premier player at 5:00pm and a Veteran's cricketer at 5.30pm! (Male and Female) The only proviso is that you are keen and want to improve.
Eight venues to choose from
The Winter Warriors sessions run at 8 venues - Perth, Newcastle and 6 venues across Melbourne - Clever Cricket Thomastown, Bayswater, Werribee Indoor Sports centre and Dandenong Sth.
The coaching is conducted on a fortnightly basis ( you can choose weekly if you want) and is open to players of all ages and abilities. With the optional discount bowling machine rate to be utilised (if chosen) when it suits you (Thomastown only). Since it's introduction, the Winter Warrior program has been my most popular program and no doubt one of the most comprehensive winter training programs in Australia!
When is it on?
You will have a chance to choose a half hour ( or hour) place from any of the days and times listed below. Once your time is chosen, this will become a standing arrangement for the duration of the winter on a fortnightly basis.

Induction night & Uniform
The induction night will feature a former Australian Test player. Their lectures in the past have proven to be very motorvating for our Winter students both young and old in the past! Shaun will outline the keys to a successful winter of coaching and how to best make use of your time and his coaching staff for best results. The Winter Warriors shirt will be handed out on the night, details for the Group training Winter Squad sessions, September Practices matches, NZ tour 2023 and UK 2024 also be released. The induction night will be on a Sunday May 12 at 6.30pm and is optional for all who want to attend.
Online Content
We have created several work shops on key aspects of batting technique. The Work shops feature explanation of a shot, examples of Test cricketers playing the shot, analysis of SBCC students playing the shot, correction drills and up close demonstrations. The work shops are included free of charge for all students and are not to be missed.
Practice games- "realCricket"- New for 2024!
We introduced full scale practice games in 2017 which were a great success. Games will run again this year on the public holiday before the AFL grand final. The games will be held in the Shepparton area and will again run on turf ( pending weather and availability).
The Winter Warriors practice match will be the first in a 4 match "realCricket" series played in Melbourne on Sundays in October and November.The matches will run for 45 overs each innings, feature NO retirement number or limit on balls faced for batters. Bowlers will have 9 over maximums. In effect the games will be played as a senior premier or Sub District game would be played. It will also feature the very successful competative development model that ours tours to NZ & UK have used to develop talent over the past 9 years.
Pending demand, practice games will be available in Newcastle and Perth.
What if I am going to miss a session?
Please attend all sessions as make up sessions will not be provided this Winter unless the office is informed before the program starts (May 1, 2023) of any dates you will be unable to attend. Nets and coaches are pre booked and paid for regardless of weather the session takes place.
All sessions are transferable, if you are going to miss a session you can
- Pass it onto a family member or friend
- Organise a swap with someone else doing the Winter Warriors program
- Pass the session onto a cricket teammate

Injury?
If you sustain a long term Injury, sessions not used from the time you inform the office can be postponed or transferred.
Other missed sessions
If a coach is ill or unable to make a session you will receive a session at the end (or during) the program to cover the missed session.
Helpful Hints
Try to get to all sessions early to allow time to pad up or prepare for your session.
Always be padded up ready to go if you are batting.

The Cost (standard 30 minute sessions)
10 x $52.00* = $520 (Thomastown, Perth)
10 x $55.00* = $550 ( Dandenong, Bayswater Nth, Oakleigh, Werribee, Newcastle)
10 x $60.00* = $600 (Citipower Centre St Kilda)
The basic program is based on a 30 minute fortnighly session.
1hour sessions or weekly sessions if chosen will increase the price of the program.
Plus $30 (includes shirt, video session & 7 coaching workshops!)

* Variation in pricing is a reflection of the net hire fees imposed by individual centres we have to hire across Australia
Optional bowling machine practice (Take 5 card)
As a Winter Warrior, you are entitled to discount bowling machine rates at Thomastown when it suits you. The rates are:
- 5 x 1 hour sessions at $10.00 each = $50.00
- Rates are normally $40.00 per hour - saving you $150.00!
- Winter Warriors can book unlimited sessions at Clever Cricket for $10 per hour (personal sessions only, training partners will be charged a 50% of normal price)
