Emerging Player Program

The Emerging Player Program 2018 is only open to young talented players who are the next generation of elite cricketers in Victoria. To qualify for a position in the Emerging Player Program you must have been listed in the squad for your area in the recent Craig Shield competition. The program is an exciting mix of practical sessions combined with the latest innovations in cricket. The program exposes you to former Test greats and elite coaches and their methods at this vital stage of your cricket career. Choose your location below.

Coaching Panel

Over the past 32 years our stellar coaching panel has consisted of over 50 former International Test Cricketers. Please see below a comprehensive list of all of our former coaches spanning from all over the world!

On the clinics we also have up to 100 Senior cricketers and current SBCC staff coaches who will be serving as group coaches on each of the camps.

Recent coaches over the past 2 years of the camps have included:

Graham Yallop

Former test Captain of Australia with a highest test score of 268. An elegant player who was a master of all strokes and is our most experienced coach.

John Dyson

John was a hard working opening batsman who played 30 Test Matches for Australia with a highest score of 127*. He also went on to coach the West Indies and Sri Lanka respectivley.

Keith Stackpole

Former Australian Test star who's aggressive stroke play excited crowds around the world. Now noted as a leading authority on the game either from behind the microphone or on the ovals of our coaching camps.

Merv Hughes

Merv's 212 Test wickets put him up with the all-time greats of Australian cricket. Merv will delight all with his manner and insight into todays Test team.

Nathan Bracken

5 tests and 116 one day internationals, Nathan was a left arm fast bowler who excelled at the one day game. In 2008 he was rated as the number one bowler in ODI's in the world!

Ray Bright
Ray Bright

A veteran of 25 Test matches for Australia. A former vice-captain of Australia and a long-serving captain of Victoria, Ray is the best spin bowling coach in the state.

Rob Quiney

Big Bash Legend for the Melbourne Stars, Rob was new to the team this year and we look forward to big contibutions from him in the future.

Terry Alderman

Terry played 41 tests for Australia, taking 170 wickets with his best bowling figures being 6/47, including taking 9 wickets for the match on his debut.

The program will be split into two sections.

  • East/South will be based at the Sandown Indoor Centre- Sandown.
  • North/West will be based at Clever Cricket in Thomastown.

Both venues have long run ups for the fast bowlers.

The program will run 6.00pm till 7.30pm each Sunday at Thomastown and Sandown.

Starting date
Emerging Player Program starts on June 17 and runs for 10 sessions across the Winter.

  • Practice matches
    The Emerging Player Program optional practice matches will run during the September School holidays rounding off the program in the best possible way.
  • UK Cricket Tour 2018
    After the very popular introduction of our UK Tour specifically for the players that completed the EPP in 2017, the UK tour will be offered again in 2019!
