Emerging Player Program

The Emerging Player Program 2021 is only open to young talented players who are the next generation of elite cricketers in Victoria. To qualify for a position in the Emerging Player Program you must have been listed in the squad for your area in the recent Craig Shield competition. The program is an exciting mix of practical sessions combined with the latest innovations in cricket. The program exposes you to former Test greats and elite coaches and their methods at this vital stage of your cricket career. 2021 coaches include Merv Hughes, Rob Quiney, Michael Beer, Kenroy Peters, Ray Bright Graham Yallop, & Tony Dodemaide.

Coaching Panel

Over the past 32 years our stellar coaching panel has consisted of over 50 former International Test Cricketers. Please see below a comprehensive list of all of our former coaches spanning from all over the world!

On the clinics we also have up to 100 Senior cricketers and current SBCC staff coaches who will be serving as group coaches on each of the camps.

Recent coaches over the past 2 years of the camps have included:

Graham Yallop

Former test Captain of Australia with a highest test score of 268. An elegant player who was a master of all strokes and is our most experienced coach.

Kenroy Peters

Kenroy Peters through shear weight of wickets forced his way into the West Indian Test team vs South Africa in 2014 taking 2/69. He has taken 232 first class wickets with BB of 7/36 for Windward Islands.

Merv Hughes

Merv's 212 Test wickets put him up with the all-time greats of Australian cricket. Merv will delight all with his manner and insight into cricket & his expertise in coaching fast bowlers of all ages.

Michael Beer

MIchael Beer BBL bowler who played a key role for the Scorchers and Stars with the new ball in 20/20 cricket. Hard working left arm spinner who worked his way into the Australian Test team in 2011!

Ray Bright
Ray Bright

A veteran of 25 Test matches for Australia and current Victorian State selector. He is also a former vice-captain of Australia and a long-serving captain of Victoria. Ray played in both Centenary Test's, World Series Cricket and was a hero of the famous ties Test vs India! Ray is the best spin bowling coach in the state.

Rob Quiney

A five time Sheffield Shield winning batsman for Victoria, Rob worked his way into the Australian Test team in 2012. He is a Big Bash Legend for the Melbourne Stars and a great additional to our coaching team who is very popular where ever he coaches.

The program will be split into two sections.

  • East/South will be based at Maddocks Sports Blackburn.
  • North/West will be based at Clever Cricket in Thomastown.

Both venues have long run ups for the fast bowlers and large spaces to be Covid-19 compliant and safe.

The program will run 6.30pm till 8.00pm each Sunday at Thomastown and Blackburn.

Starting date
Emerging Player Program starts on July 18 and runs for 9 sessions across the Winter.

    The Emerging Player Program optional practice matches will run AFL grand final holidays rounding off the program in the best possible way.
